Group recording in ixiQuarks

For our recent laptop musicianship lecture each group recorded their performances of previous weeks. To do this each group member had to record their own part in ixiQuarks. The audio files were then collected from each group member and put into logic 9. Once each group had done this each group took turns to play their recordings to the rest of the group through four speakers. We used Logic’s surround panner and assigned a channel to each speaker. Four of the channels went to each corner of the room (where the speakers were positioned), but as we had five people in our group, and five channels of audio, we tried to position one sound in the centre of the room using surround panner.

It was really interesting to hear each groups performance this way. Compared to having heard performances through laptop speakers originally, getting the full range of sounds that were actually being produced was quite amazing. For our won performance I felt that the overall sounds almost didn’t even resemble what we had heard before through our laptops. After hearing our performance through the speakers I felt that some work still needs to be done, but it was still enjoyable at the same time.
